On Saturday, July 12th at 10am, the Schrader campaign will be launching our first of a series of weekend canvasses throughout the 5th Congressional District. The campaign will be partnering with several Democratic candidates for the Oregon House of Representatives and county Democratic Central Committees to go door-to-door throughout the district as we gear up for the general election.
The recent primary election on May 20th set new records for voter turnout, unfortunately many new Democrats only voted in the presidential race and left the rest of their ballot blank.
Democrats need to reach out to these voters and remind them that to make real progress, we need to focus on winning more than just the White House. On July 12th, we will be canvassing neighborhoods with especially high numbers of people who only voted in the presidential primary, and getting the word out about our Democratic candidates in other races.

Hanten encourages citizens from District 19 to attend and share their issues and concerns with him. Day deeply believes that the primary job of all elected representatives is to “truly represent the people in their District” and, once elected, will continue HD19 Day to facilitate contact with his constituents in HD19. HD emphasizes, "My top priority will always be to listen to my constituents. I have faithfully done this while serving as a school board director, and I will continue to do it as a citizen representative.” House District 19 includes parts of South and East Salem, Aumsville, Turner, and surrounding areas. HD pledges to run a positive campaign focusing on key issues and voting records, without personal attacks or dirty politics. Day said 'I strive to be honest and straightforward in everything I pursue. The voters in my district are smart, hard-working people who can not be fooled by negative campaigning. I will work hard to earn their trust by giving them the respect they are due, listening to their concerns and, once elected, representing them in the legislature.”

In towns across Oregon, families are ready to change the direction of America by changing the priorities in Washington D.C. and putting Oregonians before the powerful special interests. Because real change in Washington D.C. begins in Oregon, House Speaker Jeff Merkley, candidate for U.S. Senate, will travel to 100 towns across the state. Starting in the timber town where he was born, Merkley will meet with hardworking families struggling to pay the bills, workers worried about their jobs being outsourced overseas, and business owners squeezed by skyrocketing health care costs. All events are open to the public.
