Steve Marks of Turner is a candidate for the Democratic nomination for Congressman in Oregon’s fifth district, which includes Clackamas County, Marion County, Polk County, portions of Multnomah and Benton Counties, and portions of the Oregon Coast.   Marks’ web site is located at  http://www.stevemarksforcongress.com/  .

Marks was raised in the Southern Oregon town of Sutherlin.  He attended University of Oregon and received a Bachelor of Science degree in Community Services and Public Affairs in 1983 and a Masters degree in Public Policy and Management in 1986.  He worked as one of the key advisors to then Senate President John Kitzhaber from 1985 through Kitzhaber’s term as Senate President, which ended in 1993.

When Kitzhaber ran for Governor, Marks moved over to become a key policy advisor on the 1994 campaign and worked for the campaign through the election and transition.  After Kitzhaber’s election, Marks served the Governor as Senior Policy Advisor and Chief of Staff. 

Recently, Marks has worked as an advocate for the Archimedes Movement, founded by John Kitzhaber to address the fundamental problems in our health care delivery systems.  He also represents economic and agricultural interests in Oregon.

The DemForum is a regular luncheon event featuring speeches by by Democratic and progressive officeholders and candidates.  The $11 cost includes a buffet lunch, tea, and gratuity. Reservations are required
