Hanten Day is a candidate for State Representative in District 19 which includes the southern part of the City of Salem, the cities of Turner and Aumsville, and rural portions of Marion County located in the vicinity of these three cities. Hanten’s campaign web site is located at http://www.votehd.com/ .
Hanten is unopposed in the primary election. In the general election, he will face Republican State Representative Kevin Cameron, the incumbant. Hanten was elected in 2005 to the non-partisan position of Director (Zone 3), Salem-Keizer School Board. Zone 3 is comprised of portions of central and south Salem west of Interstate 5. Directors of the school board are elected at-large by all voters of the district (which includes the cities of Salem and Keizer as well as surrounding suburbs rural areas). With an enrollment of 37,000 students, Salem-Keizer is one of the largest school districts in the state.
Hanton is employed as a Health System Analyst for the State of Oregon, Office for Oregon Health Policy and Research. He holds a degree in Medicine and Public Health from Tongji Medical University (1988). Other educational achievements include a World Health Organization research fellowship at Harvard University (September 1992-June 1993); a master's degree in Science from Southern Connecticut University (1998); and a graduate certificate in education assessment from University of Maryland (2005).
Hanton’s past civic involvement includes service on local government advisory boards and committees (Marion County, City of Keizer, and Salem-Keizer School District).
Hantan and his wife Wei have been married for 20 years. They live in South Salem with their two children, Richie, age 17 and Joy, age 8.
The DemForum is a regular luncheon event featuring speeches by by Democratic and progressive officeholders and candidates. The $11 cost includes a buffet lunch, tea, and gratuity. Reservations are required
