With the Democrats in charge, the federal govermment is ready to take action on this issue. As President Obama said in his Presidential Address to the Congress on February 24: "So let there be no doubt: Health care reform cannot wait, it must not wait, and it will not wait another year".

John Kitzhaber returns to Salem to make his case for Health Care Reform as he has done in speaking engagements throughout the country..
John Kitzhaber is a medical educator and was Governor of Oregon for two terms (1995-2003). Prior to entering politics, he was a practicing physician. He is a graduate of South Eugene High (1965), Dartmouth College (1969), and OHSU (medical degree 1973). From 1973 to 1986, Kitzhaber practiced as an Emergency Room Physician.
Kitzhaber's life in politics began in 1978 when he was elected to the Oregon House. He served in the House one term. In 1980, he was elected to the Oregon Senate where he served three terms (1981-1993). He served as President of the Senate from 1985 through 1993. As Senate Presiident, he was instrumental in the creation of the Oregon Health Plan.
In 1994, Kitzhaber defeated Republican Denny Smith to win his first term as governor. He was re-elected in 1998 defeating Republican anti-tax activist Bill Sizemore by a margin of 64 percent to 30 percent.
Kitzhaber currently serves as: President of Estes Park Institute, a Colorado based education organization for community hospital and healthcare leaders; Director for the Center for Evidence Based Policy at OHSU; and Chair on Health Care Policy with the Foundation for Medical Excellence, an Oregon based non-profit. He is also involved in the Archimedes Movement, an organization he founded in 2006 to advocate for health care reform.
